A new study published in Avicenna Journal of Phytomedicine sheds further light on how coconut oil, virgin coconut oil in particular, enhances cardiovascular health, in direct contradiction to the U.S. government claims that coconut oil leads to heart disease.

As is to be expected, much of the research published in peer-reviewed journals showing that coconut oil enhances heart health in recent years has been conducted outside the U.S., in tropical cultures where coconuts grow. These countries are finding out for themselves that they have been misled by U.S. policy that condemns their native diets which includes coconuts and coconut oil. See:

Trust the Good Old Coconut and its Oil

This current study conducted in Nigeria looked at the pathogenic role of cadmium (Cd) and its exposure in the induction of dyslipidemia implicated in the development and increasing incidence of cardiovascular diseases, and explored whether polyphenolics isolated from virgin coconut oil (VCO) could prevent Cd-induced dyslipidemia.

Cadmium (Cd) is a widespread environmental and occupational pollutant that has emerged as a major cause of pathobiochemical events and damage in a number of organs. Cadmium concentration has increased in the biosphere through mining, smelting, agricultural and industrial activities (Prozialeck and Edwards, 2012 ). It is a stable divalent cation that is not biodegradable and persists in the environment. Human exposures occur in the workplace or via ingestion of Cd-contaminated food or water (Prozialeck and Edwards, 2012 ; Vidal et al., 2015 ). The Cd levels in the air and drinking water are not alarming; however, a considerable amount of Cd is absorbed via food and cigarette smoking (Siu et al., 2009 ).

The title of the study is: Polyphenols isolated from virgin coconut oil attenuate cadmium-induced dyslipidemia and oxidative stress due to their antioxidant properties and potential benefits on cardiovascular risk ratios in rats

The researchers concluded:

The co-administration of VCO polyphenol with Cd remarkably restored lipid profile and cardiovascular risk ratios and stabilized antioxidant defense systems comparable to control group.

This is the first study presenting that polyphenols isolated from VCO prevent Cd-induced lipid abnormalities and cardiovascular risk ratios by improving antioxidant defense systems.

Research and Science Prove Coconut Oil is Not Responsible for Heart Disease

The research proving coconut oil is NOT a threat to heart disease, and in fact is heart healthy, is extensive, and much of it has existed for years.

I was one of the first ones to publish the positive research on coconut oil starting back in 2001, and CoconutOil.com, now part of the Health Impact News network, contains the bulk of that research that we have collected over the years.

It is obvious that the attacks on coconut oil are based solely on the fact that it is a saturated fat, and the faulty premise that all saturated fats are bad, and lead to heart disease. This lipid theory of heart disease has been thoroughly debunked by science.

One the largest analysis of the peer-reviewed literature was published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2010, and this meta-analysis looked at almost 350,000 studies published on saturated fats, and concluded:

A meta-analysis of prospective epidemiologic studies showed that there is no significant evidence for concluding that dietary saturated fat is associated with an increased risk of CHD or CVD. (full study)

Many other studies have come to the same conclusion, including a study published in 2013 in Advances in NutritionDietary Fats and Health: Dietary Recommendations in the Context of Scientific Evidence.

Although early studies showed that saturated fat diets with very low levels of PUFAs increase serum cholesterol, whereas other studies showed high serum cholesterol increased the risk of coronary artery disease (CAD), the evidence of dietary saturated fats increasing CAD or causing premature death was weak.

Over the years, data revealed that dietary saturated fatty acids (SFAs) are not associated with CAD and other adverse health effects or at worst are weakly associated in some analyses when other contributing factors may be overlooked.

Several recent analyses indicate that SFAs, particularly in dairy products and coconut oil, can improve health.

In contrast, there have been numerous studies showing coconut oil is heart healthy, especially virgin coconut oil which has a higher content of antioxidants. Here is a sampling of that research:

Coconut Oil is a Threat to U.S. Commodity Crops and Big Pharma

Coconut oil cannot be produced in the U.S. – it must be imported from tropical countries.

The primary vegetable oils in the U.S. are derived from corn and soybeans, and the U.S. is the world leader in these two crops, as they are heavily subsidized by U.S. taxpayers to keep prices artificially low. They are also crops that are mostly derived from genetically modified seeds.

The “tropical oils” are the main competition world-wide, and that would include palm oil and coconut oil. They are naturally high in the percentage of saturated fats, whereas the polyunsaturated fats that replaced saturated fats in the American diet have to be chemically altered to make them shelf-stable.

For many years they were hydrogenated, until research showed that the by products of this refining, trans fats, were harmful to human heath and banned in most countries. The FDA eventually issued warnings against trans fats, but they still exist in the U.S.

However, the main reason the lipid theory of heart disease continues in the U.S. is because to admit that this hypothesis is wrong is to admit that a whole class of pharmaceutical drugs is unnecessary, statin drugs that lower one’s cholesterol artificially. Statin drugs are historically the best-selling pharmaceutical drugs all time.

Virgin Coconut Oil: Not All Coconut Oils are the Same

Many have jumped onto the Virgin Coconut Oil bandwagon since I introduced this product to the U.S. market back in 2001. Today, many mass-produced and refined coconut oils are being labeled as “virgin” coconut oils.

One of the more popular myths being propagated regarding unrefined “virgin” coconut oils is that the highest quality coconut oils are “cold-pressed” and never see heat.

However, research has shown that virgin coconut oils processed with some heat actually have higher levels of antioxidants, unlike the refining process of virgin olive oils.

And as this study from Nigeria I referenced above shows, the antioxidants in virgin coconut oil are seen as the key component when it comes to heart health.

I have written a guide to purchasing coconut oil that puts to rest many of these common myths:

About the author: Unlike many people who write about coconut oil by simply reading about it, Brian Shilhavy actually lived in a coconut producing area of the Philippines for several years with his family, observing firsthand the differences between the diet and health of the younger generation and those of his wife’s parents’ generation still consuming a traditional diet. This led to years of studying Philippine nutrition and dietary patterns first hand while living in a rural farming community in the Philippines. 11 Surprising Benefits & Uses of Coconut Oil

Wondering what coconut oil is good for? Well, this wonder oil benefits in skin care, hair care, weight loss, treating yeast infections, improving digestion and increasing immunity against a host of infections and diseases. The oil is used not just in tropical countries, where coconut plantations are abundant, but also in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Australia. People are discovering the wonders this oil can create, and it is again gaining popularity throughout the world.

Let us look at some of the known benefits of this oil.

Table of Contents

Health Benefits of Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has several health benefits, the most important ones being its usefulness in hair care and skin care.

Hair Care

Do you know the reason for long and shining hair of women in tropical coastal regions? Yes, it is coconut oil. Women in tropical coastal regions of the world use this oil for their hair almost daily. This thick butter-like oil helps in healthy growth of hair and makes your hair shiny. It is also highly effective in reducing protein loss, which if unchecked can lead to various unhealthy qualities in your hair. This is the reason why it is used as hair care oil, and in manufacturing various conditioners, and dandruff relief creams. Now you must be thinking how to use coconut oil for your hair? Just apply it topically to your hair or use a coconut oil hair mask.

Worried about damaged hair? Again coconut oil is the solution. It is an excellent conditioner and helps the re-growth process of damaged hair. It also provides the essential proteins required for nourishing and healing damaged hair. Research studies indicate that it provides better protection to hair from damage caused by hygral fatigue.

By regularly massaging your head with coconut oil, you can ensure that your scalp is dandruff free, even if your scalp is chronically dry. It also helps in keeping your hair and scalp free from lice and lice eggs (yes, some people do get lice in their hair).

Skin Care

Did you know that coconut oil works great for skin? Coconut oil is an excellent massage oil that acts as an effective moisturizer on all types of skin, including dry skin. Unlike mineral oil, there is no chance of having any adverse side effects on the skin from the application of this oil. Therefore, it has been safely used for thousands of years for preventing dryness and flaking of skin. Yes, you read it right – thousands of years! Coconut oil usage may be termed as a recent fad, but it has been there for ages.

It also helps in treating various skin problems, including psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema, and other skin infections. For this exact reason, coconut oil forms the base ingredient of various body care products like soaps, lotions, and creams that are used for skin care. What more? It also delays the appearance of wrinkles and sagging of skin, which normally accompany aging. The credit to this benefit goes to its well-known antioxidant properties.

Weight Loss

Coconut oil is useful for weight loss too. It contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that help in taking off excessive weight. Research suggests that it helps to reduce abdominal obesity in women. It is also easy to digest as compared to other edible oils and helps in healthy functioning of the thyroid and endocrine system. Further, it increases body’s metabolic rate by removing stress on the pancreas, thereby, burning more energy and helping obese and overweight people lose weight. Hence, people living in tropical coastal areas, who use coconut oil every day as their primary cooking oil, are normally not fat, obese or overweight. Several people focus on exercises to lose weight, from using indoor machines like leg press machines to outdoor exercises like running and playing sports. While this is a good approach to lose weight, including products like coconut oil enhances your weight loss efforts.

Improves Immunity

Coconut oil is also good for improving your immunity. It strengthens the immune system because it contains antimicrobial lipids, lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid, which have antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties. The human body converts lauric acid into monolaurin, which research has supported as an effective way to deal with viruses and bacteria that cause diseases like herpes, influenza, cytomegalovirus, and even HIV. Coconut oil helps in fighting harmful bacteria like listeria monocytogenes and Helicobacter pylori, and harmful protozoa such as giardia lamblia.

coconutoilinfographicBoosts Digestion

Coconut oil helps to improve the digestive system, and thus, prevents various stomach and digestion-related problems including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The saturated fats present in it have antimicrobial properties and help in dealing with various bacteria, fungi, and parasites that can cause indigestion. It also helps in the absorption of other nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and amino acids.

Dental Care

Calcium is an important component of our teeth. Since coconut oil facilitates absorption of calcium by the body, it helps in developing strong teeth. It also stops tooth decay. Recent research suggests that it is also beneficial in reducing plaque formation and plaque-induced gingivitis.

Prevents Candida

Candida, also known as Systemic Candidiasis, is a tragic disease caused by an excessive and uncontrolled growth of yeast called Candida albicans in the stomach. Coconut provides relief from the inflammation caused by candida, both externally and internally. Its high moisture retaining capacity keeps the skin from cracking or peeling off. Capric acid, caprylic acid, caproic acid, myristic acid and lauric acid found in coconut oil help in eliminating Candida albicans.

Further, unlike other pharmaceutical treatments for candida, the effect of coconut oil is gradual and not drastic or sudden, which gives the patient an appropriate amount of time to get used to the withdrawal symptoms or Herxheimer reactions (the name given to the symptoms accompanying body’s rejection of toxins generated during elimination of these fungi). But in the treatment of this condition, people should systematically and gradually increase their dosages of coconut oil, and shouldn’t initially start with a large quantity.

Speeds Up Healing

When applied to infected areas, coconut oil forms a chemical layer that protects the infected body part from external dust, air, fungi, bacteria, and viruses. It is highly effective on bruises because it speeds up the healing process of damaged tissues.

Keeping Organs Healthy

The presence of medium chain triglycerides and fatty acids in coconut oil helps in preventing liver diseases. This is because those substances are easily converted into energy when they reach the liver, thus reducing the workload of the liver and also preventing accumulation of fat. It also helps in preventing kidney and gall bladder diseases and helps to dissolve kidney stones. Coconut oil is also believed to be useful in keeping pancreas healthy by treating pancreatitis.

Helps in AIDS & Cancer Treatment

It is believed that coconut oil plays an instrumental role in reducing the viral susceptibility of HIV and cancer patients. Preliminary research has shown an indication of this effect of coconut oil on reducing the viral load of HIV patients.

Boosts Heart Health

This is a controversial topic. There is enough research to prove that coconut oil is not good for the heart due to the presence of saturated fats. While there is also research that shows that coconut oil is good for the heart. Lauric acid present in coconut oil helps in actively preventing various heart problems like high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure. Coconut oil does not lead to increase in LDL levels, and it reduces the incidence of injury and damage to arteries and therefore helps in preventing atherosclerosis. A study suggests that intake of coconut oil may help in maintaining healthy lipid profiles in pre-menopausal women. So, finally, is coconut oil good or bad for the heart? Well, if you are using it for edible purposes, check your cholesterol levels regularly. If you find them increasing, it is better to stop the intake. In any case, do consult a professional medical practitioner before you start consuming coconut oil. Never play with your (and someone else’s) heart!

According to the Coconut Research Center, coconut oil kills the viruses that cause influenza, measles, hepatitis, herpes, SARS, and other serious health risks. It also kills bacteria that cause ulcers, throat infections, urinary tract infections, pneumonia, and gonorrhea. Finally, coconut oil is also effective in the elimination of fungi and yeast that cause ringworm, athlete’s foot, thrush, and diaper rash.

Other Benefits

Coconut oil is strongly recommended for a number of other benefits that are explained below. Using this oil has been shown to mildly help the following:

Stress relief: Coconut oil is very soothing, and hence it helps in removing stress. Applying it to the head, followed by a gentle massage, helps eliminate mental fatigue. According to research virgin coconut oil gives relief from stress and has antioxidant properties.

Diabetes: Coconut oil helps in controlling blood sugar, and improves the secretion of insulin. It also promotes the effective utilization of blood glucose, thereby, preventing and treating diabetes.

Bones: As mentioned earlier, coconut oil improves the ability of our body to absorb important minerals. These include calcium and magnesium, which are necessary for the development of bones. Thus, it is very useful for women who are prone to osteoporosis after middle age.

Boosts Energy: Coconut oil is often used by athletes, bodybuilders and by those who are dieting. The reason behind this being that it contains fewer calories than other oils, its fat content is easily converted into energy, and it does not lead to accumulation of fat in the heart and arteries. It helps boost energy and endurance, and generally, enhances the performance of athletes.

Coconut oil and Alzheimer’s disease: The research conducted by Dr. Newport states that the oil is useful in treating Alzheimer’s disease. Apart from this, there is no scientific evidence or traditional knowledge of coconut oil being used for treating Alzheimer’s. In fact, traditionally it wasn’t believed to boost the functioning of the brain in any form. The NIH has sponsored a study to check this claim.

Use as Carrier Oil

Carrier oils are those oils, which easily penetrate or absorb into the skin, facilitating seepage or absorption of other oils (such as essential oils) and herbal extracts when mixed into it. It is easily absorbed through the skin’s pores and thus is used as a carrier oil. Furthermore, being one of the most stable oils, it doesn’t go rancid, nor does it let the other oils, herbal extracts, or medicines spoil inside of it. It does not alter the properties of the oils and herbs mixed within it. It also protects the herbs and oils from microbial or fungal interactions. Coconut oil is expensive in several countries; however, in tropical countries, its cost is low enough to make it affordable as a carrier oil.

Composition of Coconut Oil

More than 90% of coconut oil consists of saturated fats (Don’t panic! It’s not as bad as it sounds, read until the end of this and your opinion may change), along with traces of a few unsaturated fatty acids, such as monounsaturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Virgin coconut oil is no different from this.

Saturated fatty acids: Most of them are medium chain triglycerides, which are supposed to assimilate well in the body’s systems.

-Lauric acid: It is the chief contributor, representing more than 40% of the total, followed by capric acid, caprylic acid, myristic acid and palmitic. The human body converts lauric acid into monolaurin. Lauric acid is helpful in dealing with viruses and diseases.

-Capric acid: It reacts with certain enzymes secreted by other bacteria, which subsequently converts it into a powerful antimicrobial agent, monocaprin.

-Caprylic acid, caproic acid, and myristic acid: They are rich in antimicrobial and antifungal properties

Unsaturated fatty acids: Polyunsaturated fatty acids- linoleic acid, monounsaturated fatty acids- oleic acid

Poly-phenols: Coconut contains gallic acid, which is also known as phenolic acid. These polyphenols are responsible for the fragrance and the taste of coconut oil. Virgin Coconut Oil is rich in these polyphenols.

Derivatives of fatty acid: Betaines, ethanolamide, ethoxylates, fatty esters, fatty polysorbates, monoglycerides and polyol esters.

Derivatives of fatty alcohols: Fatty chlorides, fatty alcohol sulfate, and fatty alcohol ether sulfate

Vitamins and Minerals: Vitamin E, vitamin K, and minerals such as iron.

How to Use and Store Coconut Oil?

Unlike most other oils, coconut oil has a high melting point – about 24 to 25 degrees Celsius or 76-78 Fahrenheit. Therefore, it is solid at room temperature and melts only when the temperature rises considerably. It is often in this form, and obviously, don’t keep it in your refrigerator.

If you are using coconut oil for topical purposes, especially hair care, just melt the oil (if it is solid) by keeping the bottle in the sun or soaking it in warm water. You can also take some oil out and put it in a small bowl and heat the bowl over a flame (don’t use a microwave). Then, take the oil on your palm and apply it to your hair. If you want to use it for internal consumption, simply replace butter or vegetable oils with coconut oil in your recipes. Remember, you don’t need to completely switch to coconut oil because then you will lose other benefits of more traditional oils and dairy products.

In colder countries, coconut oil comes in good, broad containers. However, if you get it in a pack (tetra-pack or plastic pouch), after opening the pack, be sure to keep the oil in containers with a tight lid and broad mouth. This will help you scoop it out with a spoon if it solidifies. Keeping it sealed or lidded is necessary because there are other admirers of coconut oil too (ants, cockroaches, other insects and rodents just love it!).

I don’t like the taste of coconut oil. What should I do?: Try using it in a variety of different recipes. However, if you get nauseated after eating coconut oil, don’t force yourself to eat it. As can happen with any food item, your body may be allergic to coconut oil and it is best not to consume it in that case.

Hope this will be of some help to you. Got any suggestions? Your comments are welcome! If you find it beneficial share this information with your friends too.

Research Continues to Confirm Coconut Oil’s Healing …

Research Continues to Confirm Coconut Oil’s Healing Properties for Diabetes

Family-Enjoying-Beach-coconut x3Qs6e

by Brian Shilhavy
Editor, Health Impact News

When we published our book on Virgin Coconut Oil back in 2004, we devoted a whole chapter to diabetes, based on research and testimonials from coconut oil consumers.

That chapter also exists as an article on the CoconutOil.com website. The article has testimonials for both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

Peer-reviewed published research here in 2017 continues to confirm that coconut oil is the dietary oil of choice for those who suffer from diabetes.

A new study just published in the journal Prostaglandins, Leukotrienes & Essential Fatty Acids titled “Coconut phytocompounds inhibits polyol pathway enzymes: Implication in prevention of microvascular diabetic complications” looked at the role of lauric acid in alleviating diabetic complications.

Coconut oil is nature’s most dominant source of the lauric acid at about 50% composition. Human breast milk comes in at a distant second with about 6% composition of lauric acid.

Here is the study’s abstract:

Coconut oil (CO), the primary choice of cooking purposes in the south Asian countries, is rich in medium chain saturated fatty acids, especially lauric acid (50–52%).

The oil has high medicinal use in Ayurvedic system and known to contain polyphenolic antioxidants.

Studies have reported that CO improves insulin sensitivity and shows hypoglycemic effect. However, there is no information regarding its effect on chronic diabetic complications including retinopathy and nephropathy is available.

The secondary diabetic complications are mediated by the activation of polyol pathway, where aldose reductase (AR) plays crucial role.

In this study, in silico analysis has been used to screen the effect of CO as well as its constituents, MCFAs and phenolic compounds, for targeting the molecules in polyol pathway.

The study revealed that lauric acid (LA) interacts with AR and DPP-IV of polyol pathway and inhibits the activity of these enzymes. Validation studies using animal models confirmed the inhibition of AR and SDH in wistar rats.

Further, the LA dose dependently reduced the expression of AR in HCT-15 cells.

Together, the study suggests the possible role of CO, particularly LA in reducing secondary diabetic complications.

Lauric acid is probably the most studied component of coconut oil over the years, known for its anti-microbial properties, especially in regards to destroying lipid coated viruses.

As such it is a common commodity traded in the market, and used for a variety of applications such as food preservation.

This has resulted in a market for the by products, the other medium chain fatty acids found in coconut oil, so one must be very careful when choosing a coconut oil to ensure it is a pure coconut oil that contains all of the fatty acids. Liquid coconut oil, otherwise known as MCT oil, is now sold in many stores and contains little or no lauric acid.

MCT Oil vs. Coconut Oil: The Truth Exposed

Coconut Oil Added to a Regular Diet Can Help Diabetes

It has been well documented in recent years, at least in the alternative media, that Type 2 diabetes is a lifestyle and diet problem, and can be prevented, reversed, or controlled through diet. See:

Big Pharma Failing Diabetics: Diabetes Can Be Prevented, Controlled, and Reversed Naturally

However, over the years we have seen testimonials from people who simply add coconut oil to their diet, or replace toxic trans fats and polyunsaturated oils (e.g. corn and soybean) and see positive health results, such as losing weight.

Another study just published confirms that coconut oil can have a positive effect on blood sugar levels even when a diet contains less healthy and toxic foods.

The study was published in PLoS One and titled “Effects of coconut oil on glycemia, inflammation, and urogenital microbial parameters in female Ossabaw mini-pigs.”

The study is interesting because they developed a “high fat” diet that contained hydrogenated fats and fructose, known to cause weight gain and spike blood sugar levels, and then added coconut oil.

While the study was done on pigs and not humans, it offered potential hope. Even though the pigs gained weight, the addition of coconut oil seemed to support “normal glucose homeostasis and modulated the immune response, possibly through regulation of microbial community dynamics and fatty acid metabolism.”

The authors of the study concluded:

In conclusion, when fed an excess-calorie, high-fat/cholesterol/fructose diet rich in coconut oil, female Ossabaw pigs developed obesity but were normoglycemic, demonstrated decreased markers of inflammation, and had greater bacterial diversity in the urogenital tracts than lean pigs.

Obesity has been implicated as a major cause of type II diabetes and infertility.

However, our results indicate that obesity alone may not be solely responsible for these pathologies. Instead, dietary fat source may modulate glucose homeostasis in the context of obesity, possibly secondarily to the inflammatory environment.

Our results suggest that dietary modifications may be beneficial to modulate obesity to a “healthy phenotype”.

Because the development of obesity is multifactorial, the Ossabaw pig is a useful animal model in which to study the underlying mechanisms of this condition and the influence of diet within the context of obesity.

EVEN THE DOCTORS ARE SHOCKED: COCONUT OIL KILLS 93% OF COLON CANCER CELLS IN ONLY 2 DAYS (VIDEO)

Colon cancer is one of the most common cancer types in both men and women. Even though there are many natural remedies available, medical experts still underestimate their effects and believe that there is no enough evidence to back up these facts.

Unfortunately, most of the studies done these days are actually financed and supported by the pharmaceutical commercial enterprises and most of the experiments are done for the aim of profit instead of human health.

Still, this doesn’t mean that important inquires are not distributed in diaries. For instance, there is a case in which researchers from the Adelaide University of Australia found that lauric corrosive, a compound found in coconut oil, kills over 93 percent of colon cancer in 48 hours! The trials were done in both in vitro and in vivo, indicating parallel results.

What makes lauric corrosive so effective is the fact that it destroys cancer cells while reducing oxidative anxiety, promoting reduction of glutathione levels. Glutathione is needed for the disease cells` assurance of oxidative anxiety.

Such studies cost a lot of money and they are rarely supported, as common cures simply cannot be protected. Pharmaceuticals basically lack the enthusiasm to finance such experiments, despite the fact that they are the one in charge for the wellbeing of the people. Lauric corrosive is found in mother`s milk and it is known for its potent anti-bacterial properties.

According to the clinical study of the American Nutrition Association, the fats in coconut oil “can be valuable in the curing and counteractive action of conditions like diabetes, osteoporosis, viral ailments (mononucleosis, hepatitis C, herpes and so forth.), biliary tract infections, Chron’s sickness, and cancer”.

The study has also shown that coconut oil reduces the effects of chemotherapy and improves the quality of life of those who are diagnosed with cancer.

It is really sad that the Big Pharma is not interested in further studies on the effects of coconut oil. However, it is sure that Mother Nature has provided us with all the remedies we need and all we have to do is to study them and learn how to use them.

After attacking coconut oil as “dangerous” and pushing blood pressure drugs as the solution, American Heart Association president suffers a heart attack

(Natural News) In what appears to be a clear case of irony, the president of the American Heart Association, John Warner, suffered what doctors say was a minor heart attack earlier this week after his organization advised Americans earlier this year to stop using butter in their foods and replace it with toxic, artery-clogging vegetable oils instead.

According to a published report on the AHA website, Warner — himself a cardiologist (another irony) and CEO of UT Southwestern University Hospitals in Dallas — is in stable condition after doctors inserted a stent into a blocked artery.

“John wanted to reinforce that this incident underscores the important message that he left us with in his presidential address yesterday – that much progress has been made, but much remains to be done. Cardiac events can still happen anytime and anywhere,” said Nancy Brown, chief executive officer of the AHA.

In that talk, Warner told a Scientific Sessions meeting — where he gave his presidential address — that there were “no old men” in his family, and that is due largely to heart disease.

“I know this is also true in far too many other families, not just in the U.S., but around the world. I believe the people in this room have the power – and even the duty – to change that. Together, we can make sure old men and old women are regulars at family reunions,” he said.

“In other words, I look forward to a future where people have the exact opposite experience of my family, that children grow up surrounded by so many healthy, beloved, elderly relatives that they couldn’t imagine life any other way.”

Fair enough, and an admirable goal to be sure — but then why would his organization make the recommendation to change from butter, which is natural, a healthy fat, and can even be organic, to a substance far less healthy with known ties to cardiac disease?

Could it be due to a major conflict of interest?

As we reported in June:

The AHA has long gone after healthy fats, and this time it even went so far as to say that coconut oil is bad for your heart. They would say that, of course, because eating these healthy foods keeps people from needing the prescription drugs made by the firms that support the group.

Vegetable oils may seem better, but in actuality, they’re not. Polyunsaturated fats like corn and canola oil can promote inflammation, which is responsible for an increase in cancer while slowing the body’s metabolism rate.

What’s more, nearly all canola oil is made from genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Plus, it is known to suppress thyroid function and your immune properties, and it requires extra processing by the body because of the toxins such oils contain.

“Yet they want us to believe that a chemical that was not put on this Earth for human consumption is really so much better for us than natural butter that came from a cow?” writes Isabelle Z. for Natural News.

Corn oil is so bad for the body that even some food makers who are not known to place a premium on healthy ingredients are starting to reject it along with other GMO-based oils such as soy and even canola.

On the other hand, olive oils — and in particular extra-virgin olive oil — is believed to be one of the healthiest of all oils, making the AHA’s advice on butter and vegetable oils confusing and contradictory.

But always remember that the AHA is heavily funded by the pharmaceutical industry, which survives on keeping people as sick and unhealthy as possible — another irony.
